STAFF at Bury College are helping to give the gift of sight to people in developing countries by donating their old spectacles.
Bury College has teamed up with Specsavers, in The Haymarket, Bury, to donate old frames and lenses to charity Vision Aid Overseas.
They will be refurbished and sent to communities without access to eyecare in the developing world.
John Darbyshire, the college’s director of sustainable development, said: “We asked all the staff to donate their old frames and in no time had collected more than 80 pairs.”
The partnership came after Specsavers’ contact lens supervisor, Caroline Moore, completed a level two NVQ in customer service at the college.
The college plans to roll out its collection to students and their families, while Specsavers Bury will continue collecting used frames in store.
