A MUM has thanked firefighters who came to the rescue when her three-year-old son trapped his finger in a toy train track.

Blake Kennett-Jones got his finger stuck while playing with the train at his home in Sycamore Road, Tottington.

Mum Rayne Kennett tried to get it off using soapy water, but when that failed, she called for help from her sister and brother-in-law.

But they finally decided to call the fire service and a crew from Bury fire station arrived just after midday on Sunday, June 17.

Firefighters tried to loosen the track with washing-up liquid and soapy water before removing it with a saw and pliers.

Blake’s finger was badly swollen and he did not want them to touch it, so the firefighters put him in a fire engine and promised to turn on the sirens when they had cut off the track.

Crew manager, Carl Bostock, said: “He stayed in his mother’s arms whilst firefighter Anthony Dwyer slowly and delicately did the sawing whilst I reassured Blake he would be fine.

“Slowly we cut through the wooden Brio track until we could nibble away the wood enough for it to come free. The relief on the little boy’s face was worth everything.”

Miss Kennett, aged 35, said: “I was shaking because I didn’t want him to lose his finger. It was turning blue. I was worried that they were going to cut his fingers but they did a great job. I want to thank all the firefighters involved.

“They offered Blake the chance to have a look around the fire engine and try on a helmet afterwards but he was too upset at the time. But they were great with him.”

Blake, a nursery pupil at Tottington Primary School, will now have to find new toys to play with. Miss Kennett said: “I’ve thrown the train track in the bin now. I’m not going through that again.”
