A MUM who started a blog after the premature birth of her son has been shortlisted for a top award.

Readers of “Not Even A Bag Of Sugar” have nominated its creator, Kylie Hodges, in the Inspire category of BritMums’ Brilliance In Blogging awards.

She started the blog after developing pre-eclampsia while pregnant and going into labour at 27 weeks.

Baby Joseph was born by Caesarean section on May 8, 2009, weighing just 1lb 7oz — less than a bag of sugar — and Mrs Hodges developed post-traumatic stress disorder due to the trauma of the birth.

She will attend a ceremony in London tomorrow to find out if she has won the blogging award.

The 40-year-old said: “I’m really excited. It was a real thrill to be named as a finalist.

“The other blogs in the category are really strong so it’s a good group to be in. I’m glad I’m not a judge though because it will be very difficult to choose the winner.”

Mrs Hodges, of Lichfield Drive, Bury, has also been invited to speak at BritMums’ conference on Saturday about how bloggers can work with charities to make a difference.

She has supported baby charities Bliss and Tommy’s since starting the blog.

She said: “The work I have done with charities came to the attention of the conference organisers and they asked me to speak.

“I’m a little bit nervous because there are some amazing people on the panel.”

The success of the blog has come as a real surprise for Mrs Hodges and it now gets 11,000 page views every month.

She was nominated in the most inspiring blog category in the MAD (Mums And Dads) Blog Awards last year.
