A gardening project with a Diamond Jubilee theme has been blooming well received.

Youngsters with the 28th Bury Bolton Road Methodist Guides spent a day with residents of Fusilier Court in Bury planting flowers that will blossom in red, white and blue.

Some of the plants were potted so the Guides could take them home and others were planted in borders of the garden at the sheltered housing scheme which comprises Chislehurst Close, Bexley Drive and Beckenham Close, and is run by Muir Group Housing Association, The planting day was organised by the gardening committee of Fusilier Court and aimed at bridging the gap between generations and promoting gardens as an attraction for the local community to enjoy.

“It was a breath of fresh air to have the children here helping us out and the garden is shaping up very nicely now,” said Eunice Foster, chairman of the gardening committee.

“Our next idea is to plant a wildlife hedge which the guides are hopefully going to be helping us out with as well.”

Guide leader, Caroline Wilkinson added: “The Guides had a fantastic time. It was great to see them working alongside the Fusilier Court residents.

“As well having an enjoyable, time the Guides have all earned themselves a gardening badge for their efforts.”
