PUPILS at Emmanuel Holcombe primary school have sent out a clear message that dog fouling must not be tolerated.
The Year 5 and 6 youngsters have designed new Jazzy Bins' to take the mess, which were unveiled in Nuttall Park last Thursday.
The classes produced stickers to encourage people to use the dog bins, posters for the park entrances and for local shops with letters written to shopkeepers.
Jazzy Bins is part of the My World, My Neighbourhood programme which aims to raise awareness of dog fouling in the park, and is backed by Groundwork Bury and the BurySafe partnership.
Over 20 weeks, young people looked at people's attitudes toward the environment, understanding of recycling, global impact and on how they could make a difference. The final part of the project was to create a local project with sponsorship from a local business: in this case, Pennine Telecom.
Geoff King, Pennine Telecom director, said: "The work these pupils have undertaken is to be commended. The Jazzy Bins project will benefit everyone and open everyone's mind to using dog foul bins to help keep our parks cleaner."
