RESIDENTS are being warned to beware of a Spanish lotto win scam.
The advice comes after a 77-year-old Radcliffe woman was told she had won 615,000 euros and asked to give her banking details.
However, Mrs Veronica Chadwick, of Chestnut Fold, realised the award claim notification letter was bogus.
Her daughter, Miss Shelley Chadwick, said: "The letter was postmarked Malaga and said my mum had won 615,810 euros in the el-gordo lotteria'.
"It asked her to provide banking and other details and to sign it. But she was immediately suspicious."
Miss Chadwick says that the Home Office advises those receiving such letters to contact the Consumer Direct hotline on 08454 04 05 06.
She added: "Although my mum realised at once this was a scam, I want others to be aware of it, particularly the elderly."
