THE Cricketers Arms in Bury has become the first in the borough to fall foul of the new licensing regime.
The pub in Walmersley Road had already been given a "yellow card" following complaints from neighbours about noise.
But after more objections, councillors have now suspended its entertainments licence for two months while the pub installs double glazing and air conditioning so doors do not have to be left open when the pub gets too warm.
The pub was served with an abatement notice last year, and two formal written warnings this year.
Officers said that music was being played after the licensed hour of 11pm, and that doors were left open after 10pm when they should have been closed. In June, the licensing panel imposed an extra condition on the licence, which was that noise from the pub must not be audible in any nearby house. But it has acted again following further complaints.
Enterprise Inns told the panel that a new personal licence holder was now employed at the pub. A prosecution for noise nuisance under the Environmental Protection Act is pending against the previous personal licence holder.
