There is plenty of joyful singing and dancing for the latest production by All Saints (Elton) Amateur Operatic Society.

And it’s not just because “Annie” is the chosen musical - for 2012 marks the centenary of the society.

Evening performances of Annie begin on Monday (June 11) and run until Saturday June 16 at the Theatre Royal in Ramsbottom The society’s first production was “The Mikado” in 1912 and it has been an ever present “jewel in the crown” of local entertainment ever since.

Honorary life member Mrs Mollie Binns, who is 100 later this year, has been involved with the society for more than 90 years until her recent retirement.

Her work has covered all aspects of production, from selling programmes as a little girl to stage manager and set designer.

Over the years, the society has been a stepping stone for young people who have subsequently gained a name for themselves on the stage and television.

The society continues to flourish and welcomes new members, whether they are interested in roles on or off stage.

Tickets for the show are £10 for adults, £8 for children, and can be obtained on the door or by calling 01706 822777 or e-mailing asados@hotmail.co.uk
