A FAMILY of food connoisseurs have been given more time to make their novel restaurant idea a reality.

When looking to expand their business empire in 2009, the Miah family came up with a plan to open a railway-themed Indian restaurant in an engine shed next door to Summerseat Station in Rowlands Road.

Fifteen people objected to the idea, but Bury Council gave the Miahs the green light.

But three years on, work had still not started owing to the current economic climate so the family were required to ask local authority bosses for more time.Members of Bury’s planning committee granted permission, and the applicants now plan to press ahead with their vision to offer visitors to the East Lancashire Railway a “pit stop” en-route from Bury to Ramsbottom.

Two people objected to the new application, arguing it would cause traffic problems.

Council planning officer Helen Longworth said the plan involved the removal of a retaining wall on Rowlands Road which would increase driver visibility and that the council’s traffic section had no road safety concerns.
