I FELT compelled to write regarding the closure of Ward 30 at Fairfield Hospital. What are the Trust going to do with our growing elderly population?
Are they expecting elderly spouses to travel to other hospitals in the Trust, such as Rochdale or North Manchester?
Once again, the local health authority is in a diabolical mess.
The nurse who wrote in to tell us how they were told, was right to do so. I don't think we know half of what goes on in these hospitals. It appears the nurses have been treated dreadfully.
The Trust has been open about its financial difficulties, but I cannot begin to comprehend these absolutely ridiculous decisions they are making. It appears that anything they do is just not thought through.
Good luck to these nurses, I hope they succeed in their fight to save their ward. I am sure I speak on behalf of the general public when I say we are behind you. I hope you can let us know how they get on.
Mr Turner, Radcliffe
