ON Sunday October 8 at around 12.15pm I was unfortunate to be involved in a three car accident on the dual carriageway near Tesco in Bury.

My car was at a standstill in a traffic queue when a car went into the back of me after another had crashed into him, causing my car to jolt forward quite fiercely.

My son, who is 12, was hurt and while we were waiting for the police and ambulance to arrive we were unable to move.

I appreciate that we made the traffic jam a bit worse, but what I didn't expect was the abuse that followed from other motorists, shouting at us to move the car as we were in the way. Also a group of cyclists shouted at us as they passed by.

If I had been able to move my car I would have done, but due to my son's neck injury I couldn't risk it.

The ambulance crew and police were really nice and put me at my ease, gently lifting my son out of the car and putting him in a neck brace and on a spinal board.

We went to the hospital where the nurses and doctors were really stretched to the limit dealing with lots of emergencies. When my son was getting very distressed with pain nothing was too much trouble for the staff there.

Luckily, after carefully examining my son's X-ray they found that although he had quitea bad muscle injury there was no fracture and we were able to go home.

I cannot thank the ambulance, police and nursing staff enough.

But I wish that the public could have been a bit more thoughtful.
