LIKE the writer of last week's letter (Supporting the town centre traders ended with a fine'), I too fell foul of the parasites who prey on unsuspecting motorists while visiting the car boot sale on the athletic ground on Sunday morning.
I thought (stupidly) that because parking restrictions are relaxed on car parks, parking bays and main roads on Sundays, the same applied to areas reserved for buses on Market Street - so, I got a ticket and paid up.
Last Sunday I again went to the boot sale, determined not be caught a second time, so parked in one of the pay and display areas across the road. It was then I noticed a silver-coloured vehicle parked alone in one of the bus bays, and guess who was inside? None other than one of Bury's finest, using their unmarked vehicle to lure unsuspecting motorists into parking there - whence they could pounce and issue more tickets.
It would seem that Bury council want their cake and eat it. They get the revenue from the car boot sale as the land is owned by them. They then target motorists at the sale for parking illegally on the road.
As a matter of interest, I wonder how many parking attendants (or whatever fancy name they go by) are usually employed in Bury on a normal Sunday, and where they are employed, or do they just wait for the car boot sale on the athletic track so they can double their money?
