AS a resident of north Bury, I have been shopping locally during the summer for clothing and household items.
I have been pleased at the convenience this has provided, plus the satisfaction of supporting local businesses.
I have, however, been concerned that, almost without exception, I have not been offered receipts for my cash purchases. Deciding to look into the matter, I contacted Consumer Direct (for the North West) who informed me that not giving receipts is in fact normal trading practice and therefore within the law.
It is up to the customer to ask for a receipt, if one is not given.
