BAGS more energy - that's children from a Greenmount school who helped to promote a healthier and more environmentally-friendly approach to travelling.
The youngsters walked to Holly Mount Primary as part of a special "In Town Without My Car Day". The main aim was to encourage locals to helo rid the borough of its reputation as one of the laziest in Greater Manchester when it comes to travelling to work.
At the council-organised event, Bury mayor Councillor Jack Walton and Bury North MP David Chaytor joined a walk and cycle ride to Burrs Country Park from Kay Gardens which highlighted the benefits of leaving the car at home and making journeys by foot and cycle.
Andrew Hough, Bury Council workplace travel co-ordinator, said: "Most people would like to do their bit to ease congestion and help the environment, but don't know where to start. Cycling and walking are great forms of exercise and do not harm the environment."
