FAMILY and friends of a Ramsbottom mother who died fewer than four weeks after giving birth were among 200 people who completed a poignant sponsored walk in her memory.

Their efforts have raised an estimated £2,500 that will go into a trust fund set up for Hayley Constable’s surviving son, Alfie.

On Sunday, the walkers completed a five-mile trek from the Sun Dial pub in Walmersley Road, Bury, to Ramsbottom Cemetery, where Hayley is buried. They laid flowers and balloons at her graveside.

Hayley, aged 27, of Bolton Street, Ramsbottom, fell ill after giving birth at Fairfield Hospital on March 27.

Her Caesarean section wound became infected and complications set in. She died on April 22 when a blood clot travelled to her brain.

Sunday’s walk, the first in a series of fundraising events for the trust fund, was organised by Hayley’s best friend, Natalie Hepworth.

She said: “The walk took two hours to complete and we collected money en route.

“It was the first occasion we’d all got together since the funeral. We all carried a single flower, and it was quite emotional.”
