A LOVING husband has fulfilled his promise to raise money for Bury Hospice after his wife died there.
Jeffrey Openshaw, of Bolton Road, Bury, pledged to hold a show to thank the charity for caring for Lorraine, who died in July, 2008 from breast cancer.
He organised a cabaret night at Dobbies Sports And Social Club, in Bradley Fold, with performances by singer Sheila Diamond and comedian Donna Elson.
The star of the night was Mr Openshaw’s son, Darren Shaw, who is a popular performer in Blackpool.
He sang two of his stepmother’s favourite songs, When You Tell Me That You Love Me by Diana Ross, and Islands In The Stream, by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.
The event raised £1,500, which the father and son have now presented to Michelle King, the hospice’s community fundraiser.
Mr Openshaw, aged 68, said: “When Lorraine was in the hospice, I said I would hold a show to raise money so I’m glad I’ve finally done it. The hospice staff were brilliant and it was my way of thanking them.
“I am delighted that I raised so much money. It was a brilliant night. Lorraine would have been over-the-moon.”
