For some time, the heavy goods vehicle operations of Cormar Carpets have been a thorn in the side residents of Holcombe Road, Greenmount.
When Bury MBC sanctioned the massive expansion of their Brookhouse mill site on to green belt land, they underwrote the current intolerable scenario.
Greenmount is exclusively a residential area. This huge factory, combined with its inadequate access, contrasts grotesquely against its semi-rural backdrop.
The Victorian foundations of Holcombe Road are ill-equipped to endure the volume and frequency of Cormar HGV traffic. The increased incidence and intensity of road based vibrations are having potentially serious repercussions for private home owners and the utility companies.
Residents have been suffering sleep deprivation.
Bury MBC has a clear duty to end this misery. It was, after all, their crass, environmentally insensitive, planning approval that originally initiated this predictable chain of events.
