I read with interest Cllr Connolly’s “to do” list and noted that revitalising of Bolton Street and possibly purchasing the old Bury Police Station was on it.
A word of caution before ratepayers’ money is used on the police station.
Seemingly the building has a major problem with asbestos. I think a report said that because of the “asbestos risk” it would cost more to demolish the police station than it cost to put it up. It could prove an extremely expensive folly.
What should be on the “to do list” is an effort to get all parties involved in town centre parking round the table to agree on a standard policy, standard notices etc so that a parking ticket, is not part of the regular shopping experience, as is evident on the letters pages.
When the cost of an hour’s parking in Bury exceeds the cost of fuel to the Trafford Centre, who will be the losers?
