TREASURE hunters solving cryptic clues and doing crazy forfeits will descend on Ramsbottom on Saturday.

The Major pub, in Bolton Street, is organising a car treasure hunt to raise money for the campaign to build a new Bury Hospice.

After having breakfast from 9am, teams will set off an hour later in 25 cars to find a point of interest described in a clue.

The clues are sent by text message and the treasure hunters must send a photograph of them at the place described before receiving the next clue.

The 10 points of interest will all be within 10 miles of Ramsbottom.

As well as getting points for reaching each location, extra points can be gained by doing a series of forfeits.

These could include getting photographs of the team members milking a cow or pulling a pint behind a bar. More points will be given for people dressed as superheroes or arch-enemies and for the amount of sponsor money raised above £100.

A host of prizes are on offer, with the winners receiving £500.

Pub landlady, Anita Morris, said: “We have a few mad customers and we came up with the car treasure hunt as a way to help the hospice. It should be a fun day out, with plenty of opportunities to do silly tasks.

“We would love to raise more than £3,000 for the hospice. If it proves to be a successful event, we will consider holding it every year.”

Treasure seekers can tuck into a buffet supper at the end of the hunt, before enjoying a night of entertainment.

It will include an auction, karaoke, disco, games and raffle.

Teams can enter the competition by raising a minimum of £100 for the hospice. Sponsor forms are available from the pub.
