NEVER having written to a newspaper before, the news that Bury Council has the fifth largest credit card bill in the country has stirred me into action!
Widely reported in the press Bury (in these austere times) can spend £1,504,875 that's one million, five hundred and four thousand, eight hundred and seventy five pounds on credit cards used by its officers on foreign jaunts organised by local travel agents.
That’s not to mention first class travel around the country.
Councillors, as far as I know, do not have access this credit card luxury.
If Bury was a large spending authority like Manchester or a London borough then it may not raise an eye but the London Borough of Hillingdon’s credit Card bill is £1,637.00.
I think this is an absolute disgrace and an abuse of our money.
I urge the new Labour Controlled Council Members to sort this out, I have paid my council charges to Bury for nearly 40 years and now know where some of my money goes.
