A SUMMERSEAT wom-an’s innovative online “swop shop” page is helping raise cash for the hospital treating her terminally-ill dad.
Tania Jackson, aged 31, set up her Facebook group “swop, shop or give away!” after her father, Terry Haworth, was diagnosed with lung cancer in September, 2009.
Mr Haworth used to live in Bury before moving with his wife to Hambleton, Lancashire, 10 years ago.
Now, thanks to the success of Tania’s internet page, he has presented £552 to the oncology unit at the Royal Lancaster Hospital where he is being treated.
And a Justgiving page created by Tania has attracted more than £2,000 for the Morecambe Bay Hospitals Charity which includes the Royal Lancaster.
Tania said: “My father has had chemotherapy and radiotherapy. He is only 65 years-old.
“After seeing how the hospital has helped my dad, not only by treatment but support too, I wanted to do something to help raise funds for the unit to help other people going through the misery of cancer.
“I set up the Facebook group called swop, shop or give away! which runs like an eBay/freecycle. People can list items for sale or items they want on my group for free. And if the item they advertise sells, we ask that they make a small donation to our charity.
“The group has become a big hit and as it stands I have more than 5,000 members. We have also been holding raffles on the site to boost our fundraising and I’ve been in contact with businesses to get some fantastic prizes.”.
