A WOMAN who has suffered from rheumatoid arthritis for more than 40 years is now sitting comfortably, thanks to kind-hearted tenants.
A remotely controlled adjustable armchair has taken pride of place in the home of Miss Karen Brown, who lives in Bury.
It was bought by residents at Naseby Court sheltered housing scheme, in Hampden Road, Prestwich, who rallied round to raise money towards the £650 cost of the rise and recline chair.
On hearing about Karen’s plight, Naseby Court house manager Alex Law decided to launch the fundraising drive to buy the chair.
With help from the 33 residents, Naseby Court held a St George’s Day raffle and later organised an afternoon tea and raffle.
Mr Law said: “The chair will make a big difference as it can be adjusted using a special control.” A delighted Karen, aged 45, of Garston Street, said: “I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the age of four.
“I’ve also had two hip replacements and I’m very limited when it comes to walking.”
She added: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone there for their kindness and generosity in raising funds to provide me with this much-needed rise and reclining armchair. I’ve only had the chair a few days and already I’m feeling the benefits. It’s the best armchair I’ve ever had.”
l Alpha Homes has just acquired Naseby Court. The company provides sheltered accommodation for the over 55s.
