AN 18-YEAR-OLD girl was left with serious facial injuries after being attacked in the street.
The attack on the Bury College student took place shortly before 2.50pm on Thursday, May 26 in Market Street, Bury.
Police were called to Bury College's Woodbury Centre, in Market Street, to investigate.
They discovered a girl had been assaulted at a nearby subway.
She was taken to hospital for treatment.
A police spokeswoman said the girl may have been stabbed or slashed in the face.
A Bury College spokeswoman said: "Bury College is aware that a student has been injured in Bury Town Centre.
"The incident took place at an underpass. Bury College staff went immediately to help the injured student.
"The student is currently being cared for at the hospital. The police are dealing with the incident.
"The other person involved is not a Bury College student."
A 16-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody.
Inquiries are continuing.
