TWELVE teenagers are behind the organisation of a huge town centre event in memory of their friend.
Tottington High pupils and members of The Carol Godby Theatre Workshop are raising money for youngsters at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital where Charlie Wyatt was cared for before his death.
Fourteen-year-old Tom Sharman is one of the organisers who has busy organising a fundraising event to be held at The Rock shopping centre complex in Bury on Saturday, July 2. It will take place all day.
It will feature bands, cheerleaders, dancers, cultural music and more.
Tom said: “We’ve gone completely all out on the acts to make this a big event. It’s been quite difficult to organise. We just want to raise as much money as possible for the hospital. At the moment, we don’t know whether we’re going to give the money to research or kit out out the ‘teen rooms’ with Xboxes.”
Charlie, of Ainsworth Road, Ainsworth, died at the age of 13 after being diagnosed with leukaemia just weeks earlier.
He was diagnosed at the end of November last year but his condition deteriorated and he lost his battle against the disease on December 22.
Tom and other friends have been raising money for charity ever since Charlie’s death.
