I have a friend who is a keen Bury supporter and for the last few years since I retired our paths would cross most days when I went for my newspaper.
If Bury had played the previous day I would know the result by just looking into my friend’s face.
It would mirror pleasure, despair, joy or elation.
At the moment he is walking in the clouds, his face wreathed in smiles and he is looking forward to next season. If the sun never shines this summer my friend will not notice. I have worked in professional football and I know the pleasures of success and failure’s downside of despair, so I am pleased for Bury’s promotion to Division One and the joy it must have given to many people in Bury.
Well done to the players, staff and directors concerned and best wishes for he future. Promotion has been achieved with small gates and little money so it is all the more praiseworthy.
