AN aspiring model has fulfilled her dream of making her mother proud by being named Miss Bury.

Cherrelle Slater, aged 24, of Stanley Road, Whitefield, beat seven other beauties to the title in the final at the Albert Halls, Bolton, on Monday night.

Anne Slater, Cherrelle’s mother, is a quadriplegic, and was unable to attend the final but was thrilled to learn her daughter had been crowned the winner.

Cherrelle will now take place in the Miss England semi-final in Leicester in June.

She said: “I have entered Miss Manchester twice and got through to the final show but I was never really prepared. I really wanted to win Miss Bury because it is closer to home and I always go out in Bury.

“It is the last time I can enter the competition because you have to be under 25. I didn’t think I would win because the competition was really tough, there were so many beautiful girls and they had beautiful outfits.”

Cherrelle, who works as a showroom manager at Wilson Fink on Bury New Road, Prestwich, also won the Miss Popularity prize after 808 texts were sent in her support.

She added: “I am looking forward to representing Bury and being a spokesman and attending different events. I am going to go out for food and drinks to celebrate and it will definitely be in Bury.”

The finalists took part in four catwalks, which involved wearing sportswear, summerwear, a black dress and sparkles, and evening wear. She won the title along plus a £500 portfolio shoot with Yaffe, a £200 hand-made Swarovski crown, £250 cash, a personal website and coaching for the Miss England competition.

Lucy Spruce, aged 16, from Elton, came second and Jessica Endacott, aged 18, from Bury, came third in the overall contest.

Jessica also received the Miss Charity award after she raised £1,060 for the contest’s chosen cause, The Variety Club, which helps sick children.
