A talented teenage organist will be pulling out all the stops by wearing an appropriate outfit for his appearance at a Last Night of the Proms concert this weekend.
Peter Stevens is to guest at the event in his home town before taking up a three-year organ scholarship at King's College, Cambridge. Earlier, the 19-year-old, of Beechfield Drive, Bury, had served one year as organ scholar at St George's Chapel, Windsor, and played for the Royal Family.
The Last Night of the Proms concert will be staged at Christ Church, Walmersley, this Saturday at 7.30pm and Peter will perform two pieces of music.
Also taking part will be Top Trumps Events Band and soprano Kay Jordan. Peter was educated at Prestwich's Our Lady of Grace RC Primary School and St Monica's RC High School. His father Brian retired as deputy head of Our Lady of Grace in July.
Peter, a gifted musician, was organist at St Marie's RC Church in Bury for 11 years and was also assistant organist at Bury Parish Church. He said: "I will be taking up my three-year music degree and organ scholarship at King's College, Cambridge, in September. It's going to be hard work combining playing at services with my music degree. But I am looking forward to it. Ultimately, I'd like a job as organist in a cathedral somewhere."
Tickets, priced £6.50 including refreshments, are available on the door.
l-Peter is to fulfil two charity concerts before going to Cambridge. These are: Sunday, September 10 at St Marie's Church, Bury, beginning at 3pm and Wednesday, September 13 at Our Lady of Grace Church, Prestwich, beginning at 7pm.
