I am writing in response to a letter I recently read from people complaining about the colour of the blue recycling bins in Bury.
I personally use my blue bin with pride, as do the other members of my family.
When the black boxes were introduced, we had to endure complaints from readers of the Bury Times saying they had difficulty lifting these boxes out to the front of their houses. As I live on an estate with a large number of elderly people, I used to frequently help to move the boxes on collection day as many could not physically do it themselves.
Most of these people were very grateful for the introduction of the blue bins as they not only hold more recyclables but are easier to move.
Surely we should be proud that our council is actually looking at ways to improve our community and cut down on the amount of waste going to the landfill sites, rather than spending our time moaning about the colour of a bin.
Maybe these people complaining should focus their energies on the more important things in life - not on a blue bin which is actually making our area a nicer place to live.
