I AGREE entirely with Joan Reynolds (Letters, February 3), and I am sure the majority of Bury council taxpayers feel the same.
There was a time when people became councillors because they wished to serve the residents of their town, but today it appears to be to supplement their income. Many council employees who face being out of a job receive less per annum than councillors receive in expenses.
Seven hundred thousand pounds plus to fight the equal pay issue, nearly £70,000 in expenses, and a cost that has been kept very quiet, over £800,000 to set up the new Fusiliers Museum.
It’s time we had a democratic council which keeps its council taxpayers informed on just how their money is being spent.
