ROBERT Hodkinson, pictured, has been chosen as Conservative candidate for Ramsbottom in May’s local elections.
The 52-year-old, of Whittingham Drive, Ramsbottom, was overwhelmingly selected at a meeting of Ramsbottom Conservative Association.
This follows the announcement that long-standing Ramsbottom councillor, Sheila Magnall, will step down at the next election.
Cllr Magnall has served 11 years on Bury Council, was mayor of the borough of Bury in 2009/10 and is currently deputy mayor.
Mr Hodkinson, who lives with his wife and two children, has had a shop in the town centre for 11 years. He is very active in the community and is treasurer of Ramsbottom Chamber of Trade.
He said: “I am very passionate about Ramsbottom. I love the town and it has been good to us as a family.”
