A FORMER care home worker has been jailed for attacking an elderly resident in Bury.
Krzysztof Malecki, aged 26, of Walshaw Road, Bury, was jailed for eight weeks at Bolton Crown Court today.
He pleaded guilty to one count of common assault at an earlier hearing.
Two other offences were ordered to lie on file.
In March 2009, Malecki was at work in a care home in Tottington and another member of staff saw him assault an 81-year-old resident.
PC Ruth Spencer, based at the Public Protection Investigation Unit at Bury Police Station, said: "Malecki was employed in a position of utmost trust to care for some of the most vulnerable members of our community who were incapable of protecting or even speaking for themselves.
"He abused his position by attacking one of the people he should have been caring for and was rightfully put before the courts.
"Greater Manchester Police takes all reports of such abuse seriously and will do all it can to put offenders before the courts and brought to justice."
