A CHARITY supporting families dealing with cancer has launched an appeal to find more volunteers to join its fundraising team.
The Friends of Bury Cancer Support Centre organise fundraising events to raise money for the centre which offers cancer patients and their families the chance to relax and enjoy alternative therapies.
The centre, based in St James' Church Hall in Walshaw Road, Bury, opens twice a week from 10am to 4pm and recently doubled its opening hours to cope with the increasing demand.
Recent fundraising events included an afternoon tea at Slatterys in Whitefield raising more than £270 as guests learnt about the history of the chocolatiers from John Slattery and enjoyed samples of chocolates. The Friends are looking for people who can spare a few hours every couple of months helping out with tasks such as money collecting, handing out leaflets and marshalling events. Upcoming events include another two afternoon teas at Slatterys on October 19 and November 23 for £10 a ticket. Call Felicia Pressman on 0161 740 7283.
On Friday, September 22 the comedy Safari Party will be performed at the Theatre Royal in Ramsbottom in aid of the centre with tickets at £6.50. On Sunday, October 1, volunteers are needed for a collection at a car boot sale at Castle Armoury in Bury and a street collection in Ramsbottom on Sunday, October 21. To volunteer, call Marvin on 07742 788 308.
