TOTTINGTON traders will today be told the outcome of a meeting to discuss the future of the pay and display car park which has caused fury in the village.

Since charges were introduced at the privately-owned car park behind the Robin Hood pub in Market Street, shoppers, traders and residents have boycotted the site in protest of the move which has been described as causing the "death" of the village.

A Save Our Village campaign was launched last week with traders urging Greene King Pub Company to rethink charging visitors up to £10 to park.

A meeting was due to take place yesterday between Tottington councillor Yvonne Wright, representatives from Tottington Traders' Business Club, estate manager for Greene King, Tony Hodgson, and Paul Hurst, operations director for Greene King.

Coun Wright intended to take Mr Hodgson and Mr Hurst, who were travelling from their head offices in Suffolk to address the situation, on a walkabout around the village to see for themselves the strength of feeling and that Tottington people are not prepared to pay for parking.

Councillor Wright said: "As the outcome of the meeting would be too late for this week's Bury Times, I shall today visit all businesses with a report of the events to date."
