FURTHER to recent letters from blue badge holders regarding their misuse, there seems to be a misconception that if someone, who is fit, is doing an errand for a badge-holder, they may use the badge. This is not true.
The reason for the introduction of passport-style photographs on the blue badge is to ensure that the person owning the badge is in the vehicle. Anyone caught using the badge who is not entitled to, is liable to a fine of £1,000.
I have had a badge for more than 15 years and have never once been approached by a traffic warden asking to see my photograph.
The easiest way to stop the abuse is to impose fines because, believe it or not, the badges are seriously abused.
