FERRETS, sheepdogs and birds of prey will be making their way to Radcliffe for a gala day with a difference.

Radcliffe Cricket Club's annual event will have a country fair theme to keep the whole family entertained.

Among the activities on offer will be sheepdog trials, ferret racing, a dog show, football tournament, fairground, and a demonstration from "Barn Owl Bill" with his owls and falcons.

There will also be displays by Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary, Greenmount Bird Hospital, Rossendale Dog Training Team, and people who rescue hedgehogs and badgers.

Scottish dancers will descend onto the field, and music will come from a traditional Scottish pipe band and a battle of the bands competition.

At the centre of the club's ground in Unsworth Street will be a large marquee with stalls selling a variety of homemade goods and crafts, ranging from handbags and jewellery to jam and cakes.

Organisers of the gala day, to be held on September 17, are still looking for people wishing to hold a stall or take part in the event.
