IT may be in with the new as far as the Rock development is concerned, but it’s not entirely out with the old.
For a new heritage project shop, within the heart of the £350 million showpiece retail area, turns the clock back to Bury’s shops of yesteryear.
Eye-catching graphics, allied to old photographs of the town and written memories, are featured in the empty shop unit.
One of the people who played a vital role in the creation of the heritage project is Flo Leeming, aged 79, of Market Street, Bury. The verger at Bury Parish Church was approached and asked to recall her own memories for the centrepiece of the display. She said: “I was asked to write down a few pages of my memories of Bury, particularly in terms of shopping in the town. It was good to recall the old days and the old shops.”
Joanne Fitton, attached to Bury archives, helped source old photographs and images to reflect Flo’s memories. And with additional assistance from Urban Deluxe, which edited the material and DS Emotion, which produced the graphics, the whole display was finally put together.
Rock centre director Mr David Laycock said: “This is a good use of empty retail space.”
