A NEW Debenhams store, which has created 165 jobs, will be among the prime attractions of the Rock development.
The finishing touches were this week being put to the massive 72,000 sq ft Derby Street store which will occupy three floors.
In common with other retail outlets on the same site, Debenhams will open its doors at 11am today and will feature Bury’s first-ever dedicated beauty hall, located on the ground floor. A restaurant with a seating capacity for 126 shoppers is located on the top floor.
Manager Mr Philip Elliott has worked for the company for 15 years. Latterly based at Stoke-on-Trent, he is delighted to be at the helm of the new Bury store. He said: “To be in Bury is a great opportunity for us. And it’s important we integrate ourselves with the local community. I’m sure they will like the store and we’re ready to welcome them through our doors.”
Ten per cent of the new posts have been given to the long-term jobless as part of a national Government-backed Local Employment Partnership initiative.
