THE Tories and Lib Dems are clearly rattled by Ivan Lewis’s call for maximum independence for Radcliffe, Prestwich and Whitefield from Bury Council (Radcliffe Times April 1).
At long last a leading politician is speaking up for the views of a vast majority of local people. Ivan Lewis’s call for maximum independence should be supported by everyone who has had enough of Bury Council’s attitude towards all of the townships south of the borough.
Mr Lewis’s proposal cannot be dismissed as playing politics, in view of the fact he makes it clear he will campaign for maximum independence irrespective of the political party in control at the town hall.
Bury Council must be made to understand that local people have had enough of Radcliffe, Prestwich and Whitefield being ignored and neglected.
Like other Bury residents we pay our over inflated council taxes and are no longer prepared to suffer in silence.
People frequently complain that politicians of all parties don’t listen, Mr Lewis has listened and he deserves our support for his campaign.
This may be our last chance to get a fair deal for ourselves and our communities.
Instead of attacking Mr Lewis, the Tories and Lib Dems should make it clear where they stand on maximum independence for Radcliffe Paula Fletcher Bolton Rd Radcliffe
