Your recent photographs from Google of changing Bury prompts me to send you some of unchanging Summerseat.
Nearly two years ago I wrote about the daily traffic problems through the village of Summerseat and its legacy. These problems don’t change Here are photographs of damage caused to street furniture which are now more or less permanent. Our home unfortunately overlooks all of these items.
First is the tree growing at 45 degrees since it was hit more than two years ago. Then the gloriously bent and angled street lamp which has been replaced twice in four years but, hey, it's still working after its latest impact so despite emails to the council it is felt there is no problem! It’s bent, but not badly this time, so live with it! Then there is the electricity sub station fence hit and warped out of all recognition and replaced for the best part of a year now with a hideous temporary but seemingly permanent wire fence.
When lobbied 18 months ago the councillors, who drive past these ugly objects most days, kindly came up with three bits of red tarmac with SLOW written on, two slightly bigger signs, one hidden by a tree and a new sign saying 18%. A new and larger chevron sign was hit and damaged within weeks of its erection. What was needed 18 months ago and is still needed today is a crash barrier at the bottom of Cliff Avenue and a long term solution for Bass Lane.
Another picture is one of the two empty yellow bins in Cliff Avenue. Residents assumed they were for grit but this can’t be the case as they have remained empty every day since Saturday December 19, in the worst winter for over 30 years. Can someone tell us what they are now for please? They would look great with plants in for Bury in Bloom.
