THE Government has rubber-stamped the creation of a new Greater Manchester “super council”.
Communities Secretary John Denham has approved the scheme proposed by the 10 Greater Manchester authorities, including Bury, to create a more powerful Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA).
The GMCA will replace the existing Association of Greater Manchester Authorities and will be given greater power by the Government to drive economic recovery and deliver transport and education across the region.
There will now be a public consultation on the proposals until July 14.
