SURELY the LS Lowry painting should be kept for the future citizens of Bury, along with all the wonderful Wrigley Collection in the Art Gallery.
I may not like all the present-day collection but we have a duty to pass on to future generations what has been given to the town of Bury.
It is a case of selling off the family silver and to what purpose?
It would only be very short- term financial gain.
The money received from the sale would be only a drop in the ocean as far as Bury's debt is concerned.
Where will the machinations of Bury Council end? Next time the Turners, the Constable, the Landseer?
Bury Council should be making the most of its cultural heritage.
Bury has much to offer if only the council would get its act together.
Yes, I know we have the East Lancashire Railway, the market and shortly the new Fusilier Museum.
Bury should also be promoting its wonderful Victorian architecture, its famous art collection, its industrial heritage in all its diversity and its famous people.
All these elements can lead to quality tourism and thereby more revenue for the council. Furthermore I hope the council doesn't allow the last vestiges of Art Deco in the Rock to be pulled down as happened to the Tudor buildings in Moorgate in the 1960s.
Too often in our town, buildings have been dispensed with as being of no further use, without a thought for the future.
Surely conversion to town-centre loft-living would be a better option?
