AN elderly motorist broke her neck and needed an emergency blood transfusion when she was involved in a road smash.
The 74-year-old woman remains in a serious condition in hospital after her Nissan Micra apparently veered out of control and collided head-on with four vehicles in Bury New Road, Prestwich.
The accident happened at 2.30pm on Monday close to the junction with Park Road. Bury New Road was closed for a short time as paramedics treated the woman at the scene and transferred her on a spinal board to North Manchester General Hospital where she is believed to have undergone surgery.
The driver of a Ford Transit van, one of the four vehicles hit by the Nissan, received hospital treatment for a minor leg injury. No-one else was injured in the crash.
