STAFF and customers had to be evacuated when fire broke out in a town centre café.
Two fire crews were called to Station Diner in Kay Gardens, Bury, just after 12pm today.
Four members of staff and six customers were evacuated from the building when a chip pan caught fire.
One employee then used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames as firefighters arrived on the scene.
Bury Fire Station’s watch commander, Steve Wilcox, said: “The staff did really well. The first and most important priority is to get everyone out and that is what they did.”
Firefighters used dry powder to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and a special fan to clear the smoke.
A large crowd of shoppers had gathered to watch after seeing smoke coming from the café.
