SPRINGSIDE Primary School in Walmersley has been closed after an increased level of asbestos was believed to have been found in the building.
Regular tests were carried out at the school for some time after it was discovered that asbestos materials were used to build the school.
But further tests have found there is no asbestos at the school and letters have been sent to parents explaining it will be re-opened on Monday.
The school was closed on Tuesday afternoon and letters given to parents explaining what had happened.
A team of specialists is now conducting further tests at the school to ensure it is safe for the 190 pupils, as well as teachers and other members of staff.
It is hoped that the school, in Springside Road, will re-open on Monday.
A Bury Council spokesman said: “Council officials have investigated the situation and repeat tests have shown concern in other areas. After discussions, we felt it was appropriate to close the school whilst investigative work takes place.”
