BURY Boxing Club’s Hassan Mahmood boxed superbly to pick up a silver medal in the European Schools Championships in Russia.
The 14-year-old was only denied the gold in the final by the experienced Russian Bogdan Boldirev who has lost only twice in 70 fights. Mahmood, who has only lost twice in 26, can count himself unlucky to have suffered a 6-4 points verdict in the final.
He won his first fight against a Moldovan 6-1 and his second against a Turkish fighter 11-5.
Mahmood will be in action again in the near furure when he represents England in an international clash against Ireland.
