MORE than 100 people have been arrested during a nine-month crackdown on the supply and possession of illegal drugs in Bury.
Officers from Bury have carried out 61 drugs raids at homes borough-wide. They detained 115 people on suspicion of a variety of offences, ranging from possession for personal use to possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs — including heroin and cocaine.
Several cannabis farms have been detected and destroyed, including one which contained plants valued at £50,000. Officers have also seized more than £50,000 in cash from drug dealers.
Tactics employed in drugs operations included raids on drug dens, targeting of known and suspected offenders and the use of specialist drugs dogs in Bury town centre licensed premises.
Detective Sergeant Joanne Glynn said: “Drug crime destroys communities, fuels a whole range of other crimes, breaks up families and wastes lives. Communities across the division have raised it as being a major concern and we are responding to those concerns.”
