ON Sunday, September 27, we visited Ramsbottom. where there was a fabulous presentation of Second World War memorabilia.
The shops had in their windows period clothing and goods appropriate for the 40s, there was a display of vintage cars and army vehicles and even a large tank of war on show.
On the station platform there was a very good singer belting out songs of the period, and people and families dressed in period costumes with America, French and British Forces represented.
Ramsbottom should be congratulated for such a concerted effort.
Sadly the day was spoiled by seeing parking enforcement officers without their usual luminous attire dressed in dark blue uniforms (which we first thought were part of the war programme).
They were mingling freely with the public, but booking parked cars for what seemed the merest of reasons.
The biggest forces presence in this otherwise excellent day was the parking enforcement officers.
We counted five, but there could have been more.
