IT came as no surprise to read your article Parking Fury (Bury Times, September 24). The parking regime in Bury is a disgraceful shambles from top to bottom and urgently needs re-thinking.
The odious partnership of Bury MBC and NCP has been responsible for errors and misjudgements going back many years.
In addition all of this we have another private parking company operating at least four sites in Bury all with different rules and charges leading to further disputes, arguments, and most important of all driving customers and businesses out of Bury and as your article states, at the very time we need them most.
Bury pretends to be a tourist town, what a sham. You should look at real tourist centres to see what can be achieved. Howarth, Holmfirth and a recent visit to Llangollen for the steam railway, all encourage tourists.
The last named was packed on a Thursday after the schools had returned and parking on a clean, well ordered car park. Fee: Just £1 for up to three hours.
Compare this to “rip off Bury”, £1.70 for up to two hours.
Without proper leadership from the top the situation can only get worse, or at the very least continue in the same way.
Surely the time has come for serious action to restore order and fairness to Bury’s parking system. There must be sufficient grounds to tear up the contracts and start again from scratch.
