PLANS to build more than 100 homes as part of a redevelopment project are back on track, thanks to a £2.5million cash injection.
Bury Council has been awarded the money to kick-start the Pimhole regeneration scheme which was given a set-back earlier this year.
Developer Lowry Homes was scheduled to begin construction in April but it had to put plans on hold due to the credit crunch and concerns about the housing market.
Now the scheme has been given a lifeline after the council announced it has won Government funding to relaunch the development.
At the last full meeting of Bury Council, leader Cllr Bob Bibby said: “As members will know, regrettably, Lowry Homes, our chosen developer, had to mothball the Pimhole regeneration scheme because of the collapse in the housing market.
“However, I was very pleased to see that the council’s bid to the Homes and Communities Agency was successful, with an award of £2.5 million which will help kick-start the scheme. We will now see some 50 per cent of the planned 104 new, affordable homes, with phase one being completed by March 2011.”
The government’s kick-start scheme awards money to help communities by backing house building for local people and supporting jobs.
The “green” homes will be built to a higher standard of energy efficiency which is currently not reached by others in the building industry.
Bury Council is currently finalising plans to begin the work and further details are due to be released over the next few weeks.
