I am researching my Marsh family history.
My Marsh family lived at Oak Gate, which was near Oak Gate Farm in Unsworth from at least 1799. Oak Gate was on the corner of Moad Hill, and James Marsh (my direct ancestor) was living there there in 1799.
He was a juror and is registered as living at Oak Gate on the 1799 Jurors’ List. I have found evidence of Marshes still living there in the 1911 census.
There seems to be only a handful of residences there . . . maybe about nine in all. The houses were apparently demolished to make way for the 1960s developments.
Is there a reader who has photographic evidence of the houses at Oak Gate and would kindly share them with me? Is there a reader who has any anecdotes to share of the area in the 19th century?
